Holmdel Chiropractor: Dr. Melissa Shaw

Holmdel Chiropractor, Dr. Melissa ShawI didn't experience a miracle, but I have seen them within the first year of practice. My nephew was born with infantile scoliosis. Visiting with him at just a few months, I discovered that his rib shape was a bit abnormal, his shoulder was high and his head becoming misshapen which directly related to his possibility of a significant curvature in his spine. Could this be? He is just a few months old! X-rays were taken and it was confirmed, my nephew Kevin had a 45 degree curvature of his spine!

Sure, I had learned about this possibility, but now I was actually seeing it first hand. I started treating him immediately and within six months there was a dramatic 20 degree change. Through consistent Chiropractic care as well as another gentle technique that I use, at two years old, Kevin was playing and developing normally with a minimal curvature of 5 degrees. No surgery and no bracing, just a smile everytime he gets adjusted!

Chiropractic was introduced to me at a young age from my sister, who is also a chiropractor.  It began with my interest in learning the bones and muscles. As I got older my fascination grew.  I completed my undergraduate degree and went on to manage a Corporate Fitness Center. I thoroughly enjoyed helping people and it was very important for me to help them improve their lives. I knew that helping was what I wanted to keep doing, but at a different level. Chiropractic affects people's lives in so many ways. I knew that if I coupled Chiropractic Care with my knowledge in Muscular Conditioning and Balance it would be a perfect combination and would prove to help many people.

I went to Cleveland Chiropractic College in Kansas City, Missouri. Cleveland has been a leader in Chiropractic education since before I could speak a word of Chiropractic. Once I became part of the College,  I became part of a new found family. I graduated from the College in 2007. The dedication and discipline required to complete the coursework was the biggest challenge. Although a great challenge I accepted it with open arms and learned more then I thought possible.

Learning how to help others live a life without discomfort and experiencing a natural approach creates a great eagerness and excitement.  It made me realize that the capability of accomplishment is endless and with in reach. When you set your mind to achieving something you really believe in, the end result is always worth the struggle.

My primary objective is to listen to you and take every measure in finding the answers and the solution that will help alleviate or eliminate your main concerns. I address not only the spine, to me its extremely important to view the whole picture. The muscles play a major role in a lot of pain, discomfort, postural imbalances. Finding balance within the musculoskeletal system is key in helping you achieve pain relief and prevent further exacerbations. My secondary objective is to educate you, teach you about your body. I want to help you understand it, I want to see you achieve optimum health.

I was born into a wonderful, supportive and loving family. I am very proud to say that each and every member of my family plays a significant role in my life. I am blessed to have been born the youngest as I have learned so much from each one of them. I traveled to many places, experienced many memorable activities such as white water rafting, skiing... the list could go on and on.  As a result, I still enjoy and love doing just about any activity. My interests are a wide variety, makes life interesting and unpredictable. I like to reach out to the community, meet new people and listen to their story. I take part in many different fundraising events throughout the year, either by being a sponsor, donations or offering my time. My favorite part is being physically present at the fundraising events. I enjoy the sense of community and the positive energy that surrounds the event.

I receive chiropractic care on a regular basis, I get adjusted about twice a month. Chiropractic has been part of my life since I was 9 years old. Chiropractic always was and always will be my first choice path toward better health. I also feel that massage therapy is an integral part of maintaining health, I do my best to get a massage every other month. I enjoy staying active, especially once the weather gets warm. I hope to achieve some of my health goals soon and I will continue setting more personal health/fitness goals for myself as time goes on. In order to feel healthy, you must continuously strive to be healthy.

Can those with osteoporosis get chiropractic care?
Of course. When developing a care plan, we consider the unique circumstances of each patient. There are many ways we can adjust the spine. The chiropractic method we select will be best suited to your age, size and unique situation.
What can a chiropractor do for asthma?
Many people think of chiropractic as exclusively dealing with the spine. But I'm interested in the spine because it covers the nervous system. Problems in the spine can produce problems in the organs and tissues controlled by the affected nerves—including those to the lungs and bronchial tubes. Find out how chiropractic care has helped those with asthma.
